    • Upper Three Creeks Snow Park

WHEN:  Monday, October 22; 9:30 AM (till around 2:30-ish)*

MEETING PLACE:  Upper Three Creeks Snow Park

(approx.11 miles south of Sisters on Road 16/Three Creeks Road)

WHY:  To build PEAK VIEW SNOWSHOE TRAIL, a newly approved 1.75-mile dedicated snowshoe route on the Three Creeks Nordic Ski Trails system.

STA volunteers will be working in partnership with members of the Oregon Nordic Club, Bend Chapter.   Volunteer “swampers” will assist chain operators with clearing downed logs and debris, and thinning sapling thickets.  Others volunteers will help install assurance markers, signposts, and temporary signage.

No experience is necessary but participants should be in moderately good physical condition, able to hike through uneven and un-cleared terrain, capable of lifting up to 35 lbs or more, and comfortable using typical hand tools.

WHAT TO BRING:  10 Essentials; work boots, long pants and long sleeved shirt, plenty of layers, work gloves, eye protection (sun glasses/safety glasses), plenty of drinking water, snacks and lunch, sunscreen.  Hard hats and ear-plugs (will be provided if you do not have your own).  Ah yes… and bring your good humor!

HOW TO SIGN UP:  To join in this work party or learn more, please contact Patrick Eckford directly (patrick.eckford@me.com) or by phone: 541-639-2333.  For planning purposes you must have received a confirmation from Patrick to be included in the work party.

*HOW LONG WILL WE BE OUT THERE:  We are very flexible on how long folks commit to work as long as they have their own vehicle or make arrangements to leave with another volunteer.  As a guideline, you could plan on a 4-5 hour outing. Some folks may elect stay a little longer to finish up.

    CARPOOLING:  Contact Patrick to coordinate.

BACKGROUND: Individual STA members have long been helping with maintenance on Three Creeks Nordic Ski Trails system but starting with the 2017-18 ski season, STA was officially designated by the Forest Service as the official adopting organization.  It is now our volunteer responsibility to periodically monitor and maintain the ski routes and shelter.

STA, along with our collaborating partner, the Oregon Nordic Club – Bend Chapter, just received final approval for the construction of a new 1.75-mile snowshoe trail that will run from just uphill of the Upper Three Creeks Snow Park, south to the Jefferson View Shelter – the Peak View Snowshoe Trail.  The route has already been flagged and construction will begin October 22nd
